Rome Braves stomp the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 14-9

ROME, Ga. -- The Rome Braves returned home and opened a three game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers with a 14-9 win.            

Greensboro put four runs on the board in the second inning on back to back two run doubles by Yefri Perez and Justin Bohn. Rome answered in the bottom of the second with three runs thanks to a three run homer by Jake Schrader (2). Rome would tie the game 4-4 in the third on an RBI single by Victor Caratini. Greensboro would again take the lead in the fourth on a run scored by a wild pitch by Rome starter Chuck Buchanan.

ROME, Ga. -- The Rome Braves will host their second annual No Excuses 5K and 10K races this weekend.

Both runs will be held Saturday, Apr. 19 at the Braves Miracle Field of Rome, which is located next to State Mutual Stadium. The fun begins at 8 a.m.

Proceeds from the races will benefit Braves Miracle Field of Rome, which gives disabled kids and adults the opportunity to play baseball.

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

(WXIA) -- Youth running groups, rejoice -- the Atlanta Track Club has created a scholarship program just for you.

The Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most children registered for the 2014 Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

The first place team will be given a $1,500 scholarship, a $1,250 cash donation from the Atlanta Track Club and $250 in Sports Authority store credit. Two runners-up will each get $750 scholarships, $500 donations and $250 in Sports Authority credit.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah said in a release. "Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with Sports Authority to offer these scholarships to provide extra motivation to keep kids moving."

AJC Peachtree Road Race registration is open!

ATLANTA -- It's that time of year again -- time to register for the world's largest 10K.

AJC Peachtree Road Race lottery registration is now open. It will close Saturday, Mar. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Those who are chosen for the race will be informed by Tuesday, Mar. 25.

Race this weekend: Leprechaun-a-thon

ROME, Ga. -- Run through downtown Rome at a fun St. Patrick's Day-themed 5K this weekend.

The Leprechaun-a-thon 5K and Health Walk will be held Saturday, Mar. 15 at 1 p.m., and is the first event in the city's 2014 Road Race Series. It will begin and end at Berry College's Barron Stadium.

Prizes will be awarded at a post-race costume contest. Race admission also comes with an arm band that provides the wearer with discounts at various local restaurants and businesses.

Registration is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the two-mile health walk. Learn more and sign up at rfpra.com. Proceeds from the Leprachaun-a-thon benefit the Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation Authority.

Race this weekend: Run with the Wolves

ROME, Ga. -- Rome High School will hold a 5K and 2K race this weekend to benefit its core academics.

Run with the Wolves will be Saturday, Feb. 22 at 8:30 a.m.

Registration is $25 through packet pick-up and $30 on race day. Packet pick-up will take place during an expo at GoGoRunning and Tennis on East 2nd Avenue; it will be held Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

All runners will receive short sleeve T-shirts. Awards will be given to the top three male and female 5K finishers, the top three male and female masters 5K finishers, and the top three 5K finishers in each age group.

AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest open

ATLANTA -- Calling all artists: the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is now accepting entries.

Designers have until Friday, Feb. 28 to submit their works of art. All entries will be whittled down to five finalists, which will be unveiled on ajc.com/peachtree on Saturday, Mar. 15.

No one will see the winning design until race day, when it will adorn tens of thousands of finishers' T-shirts.

"The AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt design contest is a great way to showcase the work of our local artists, and we are always impressed with the entries we receive," Atlanta Track Club interim executive director Sue Payne said in a statement.

Whoever wins the contest receives $1,000, while each of the four finalists gets $100.
