Sheriff's office gives $5K to Special Olympics
ROME, Ga. -- The Floyd County Sheriff's Office recently raised $5,000 for the local Special Olympics program.
This year's Cops for Kids softball tournament will pull in funds for Special Olympics as well as Camp Goodtimes, a three-week summer day camp for kids with special needs. The tournament will be held Saturday at Alto Park.
"We do this for the kids," Floyd County Sheriff Tim Burkhalter said in a statement. "It's a great feeling knowing we are able to help them with the Special Olympics and Camp Goodtimes."
This year's Special Olympics will kick off Friday at Darlington School in Rome. The $5,000 came from fundraisers throughout the year; the same events also raised $1,000 for Camp Goodtimes.
