Rome Native, Wake Forest Basketball Player Suspended from Team

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Tony Woods, a Wake Forest University basketball player and Rome, Georgia resident, has been suspended indefinitely from the team, according to head coach Jeff Bzdelik.

Woods has been charged with assaulting a female in North Carolina. He pushed her hard enough to cause a spine fracture.

"We are suspending Tony Woods indefinitely in order to allow him to devote his time and effort to address the allegations that he is facing," said Bzdelik. "It is also important that Tony have the necessary time to maintain his good academic standing."

Woods is a junior at Wake Forest and a center on the basketball team. He played in all 31 games last season and helped WFU ascend to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
