Police: What 3 kids endured 'shocks your conscience'
News

ROME, GA (WXIA) – A veteran police sergeant says that what three children endured inside their home, in his words, ‘shocks your conscience.’

Police showed up at the home on Saturday after someone called, requesting a welfare check on the children. Initial police reports said there were five children, but later police said there were three children – ages 13 and younger.

Police said the children told investigators that at least two of the children were locked inside their bedrooms at night, and that the refrigerator was chained and padlocked.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, where children have been locked in the rooms at night,” said Floyd County Police Sgt. Rusty Williams. "I’ve never seen where they’ve been denied food, any time they want food. It just, it shocks your conscience to think about it.”

Williams says police arrested the mother of at least two of the children – Brandie Wheeler.
