Dalton man charged in Floyd Co. murder, robbery | News
FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. -- Police have charged a Dalton man with murder following an investigation of a robbery that happened in April in Floyd County.
Eric Jordan Hunter, 22, of 2014 Wesley Court, is accused of killing Nicholas Shropshire, 42, of Summerville, Ga. on April 18.
Based on findings by the medical examiner at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, detectives at the Floyd County Police Department have now added the murder charge because Shropshire’s death was a direct cause of what happened at the hands of Hunter during the robbery.
Shropshire’s body was found near the side of Floyd Springs Road and a passerby called 911 to report the discovery on the afternoon of April 18. Emergency personnel responded but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.
The victim was robbed of $1,500 and was seen with Hunter a few minutes before he was discovered unconscious near the roadway.
Hunter was initially arrested by Dalton Police on April 29. He was transferred to Floyd County on July 3 after completing his probation on an unrelated charge in Whitfield County.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Sgt. Chris Fincher.
