ROME, Ga. – Longtime 11Alive newsman Don Hatcher has passed away.

For two decades, Hatcher covered all the news of northwest Georgia as the Rome bureau reporter for 11Alive

Hatcher founded the 11Alive Can-A-Thon in Rome, which has been one of the most successful venues in the program. he also helped begin the video department at Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

He died on Wednesday, according to his obituary. He was just 64 years old.

Hatcher leaves behind a wife of 41 years, Susan, and two children, Jesse and Laura Jane.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church on 100 East 4th Avenue in Rome, Ga. Funeral services will follow. Click here for more information.
