FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. -- A 45-year-old Floyd County man faces several charges after shooting two women, one fatally, Thursday evening.

Floyd County Police responded to a shots fired call shortly after 8 p.m. at a house in the 1500 block of Fosters Mill Road. One of the victims called 911; she later died of a gunshot wound. Police also found a second shooting victim, who survived.

A Rome-Floyd SWAT team arrived on the scene and began searching for the suspect, Dewayne David Tanner. Tanner was later discovered at Cartersville Medical Center, where he was being treated for undisclosed injuries.

Tanner was charged with murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and firearm possession. He is being held in the Floyd County Jail.

The victims' names have not been released, pending notification of their next of kin. Their relationship to Tanner was not immediately known, but investigators believe the shooting was the result of a domestic altercation.
