ROME, Ga. -- A northwest Georgia sheriff's deputy has resigned after officials say he was involved in a fight at a restaurant-bar in Alabama.
The Rome News-Tribune reports that the Floyd County Sheriff's Office says Daniel Kirby handed in his resignation Sunday.
Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell says he was notified around 2:30 a.m. Sunday by officers in Alabama that Kirby had been involved in a fight at The Gridiron restaurant in Centre. Witnesses had said shots were fired by someone in the parking lot after the fight.
The sheriff's office says Kirby's brother, Justin Kirby, was arrested after both men tried to flee the scene. Deputy Kirby wasn't located during a search but turned himself in to Centre police shortly after noon Sunday.
