Young Actor's Camp begins next week

ROME, Ga. -- The Rome Little Theatre will hold a camp for budding actors later this month.

Young Actor's Camp will begin Monday, July 15 and run through Friday, July 26.

Participants will learn some of the essential skills for possible theater careers, including how to prepare an audition monologue, how to do a cold read, how to study a scene and how to develop a character.

Camp will end in a free performance for attendees' families and friends.

Young Actor's Camp is $195 for Rome Little Theatre members and $250 for non-members. Download a registration form.

The camp will be held at the Historic DeSoto Theatre, which is located at 520 Broad Street in downtown Rome.

Ava did not play with toys. Did not speak. Could not dress herself. Did not interact with her parents or sisters. Slept two hours a night. She was in her own world.

Anna says, "It's like she looked straight through me. She would just...it's like you weren't there, if you were in the room with her."

Anna Bullard took Ava from doctor to doctor for months. One doctor told the family Ava was 'just weird.'

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

ROME, Ga. -- Floyd County Schools will hold Pre-K registration for the 2013-14 school year from Feb. 4-15.

Parents interested in signing up their children can turn in completed forms to the schools offering Pre-K classes any time during the registration period.

A list of Pre-K schools is available at floydboe.net.

Eligible children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013.

ROME, Ga. -- Oak Hill & the Martha Berry Museum will host a Candles & Carols Christmas event next week.

In honor of the holiday season, Oak Hill -- home to Berry College founder Martha Berry -- has been decorated from top to bottom. Visitors are invited to mingle, meet Santa Claus and enjoy free cider, cookies and hot chocolate.

Community choirs will fill the air with music, and the Berry College Theatre Company will be on hand to give a sneak preview of Uh-Oh -- Here Comes Christmas, a production that raises money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Admission to Candles & Carols is $5 for adults and $2 for children and students. It will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

ATLANTA -- Belk department stores will host their first-ever santafest holiday celebration on Saturday, Dec. 1.

All santafests will be held from noon to 3 p.m.

Highlights include crafts, family-friend activities, Christmas treats and, of course, the chance to meet Santa Claus. Participants can enter a drawing to win a $50 kids wardrobe; three winners will be chosen from each Belk store.

Path2College scholarship coloring contest ends Sept. 30

ATLANTA -- Georgia children in Pre-K through 5th grade can now color their way to a college scholarship from the Path2College 529 Plan.

In honor of College Savings Month, the statewide college savings program is hosting a coloring contest with a $1,529 scholarship at stake.

To win the money, children must color a picture of Hootie the Wise Old Owl and complete a sentence: When I graduate, I'm going to be a ________.
