ROME, Ga. -- Berry College will host a Remembering the Trail of Tears Arts and Lecture Series next week.

Alan Garrison, a history professor at Portland State University, will speak at Berry on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

Garrison has written a number of essays on the United States' Native American removal policy. He is also the author of The Legal Ideology of Removal: The Southern Judiciary and the Sovereignty of Native American Nations.

His lecture, "Culpability for the Trail of Tears: The Trial of Andrew Jackson," will be in Berry's Krannert Center. It is free and open to the public.

Remembering the Trail of Tears was organized in recognition of the 175th anniversary of the Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of native nations after the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
