'Cotton Patch Gospel' opens Thursday at Berry

ROME, Ga. -- Berry College's production of Cotton Patch Gospel opens this week at the school's E.H. Young Theatre.

The play, based on Clarence Jordan's The Cotton Patch Version of Matthew and John, sets the story of Jesus in rural Georgia and includes a country music soundtrack by Harry Chapin.

The production begins its run Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tom Key, who co-wrote the play with Russell Treyz, will speak after the 2 p.m. performance on Sunday, Feb. 22. He will perform a selection from his one-man show, C.S. Lewis On Stage, at the Berry Chapel at 7 p.m.

Cotton Patch Gospel will also be staged Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. each day; and Sunday, Mar. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and can be purchased by calling the Berry College Theatre Company box office at 706-236-2263.
