ROME, GA -- The Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau has partnered with the Rome Floyd County Library to present a Civil War Symposium Series throughout 2011.

The series celebrates Civil War heritage during its sesquicentennial anniversary. Historians will present their research of the effect of the War Between the States on Rome and Floyd County.

Dan Roper, editor and publisher of Georgia Backroads, will present the first symposium at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27 in the Coosa Room of the Rome Floyd County Library (3 Government Plaza, 30161). Roper is a respected local author and historian with over 80 published articles on Georgia history and travel.

The symposium is free and open to the public.

Future speakers in the series include Barry Brown of the Georgia Civil War Commission, local historian Zack Watters, and Margaret Hollingsworth and the Cochran Family, who are Civil War performers.
