In Georgia, Governor Sonny Perdue signed a texting-while-driving ban into law earlier this year; it went into effect in July and started getting enforced in August.

"Since then, we have issued 30 citations," said Trooper 1st Class Carlos Searcy of the Georgia State Patrol.

That's less than one per day.

McHenry PTO Receives Grant from Pepsi Refresh Project

ROME, GA -- The Pepsi Refresh Project, a groundbreaking effort that funds ideas that can refresh the world, has announced that the McHenry Primary School Parent Teacher Organization received the most votes in August and is on track to be collectively awarded a $25,000 grant to build a handicap-accessible playground for all McHenry students.

Americans voted for ideas from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31. When the votes were tallied, Pepsi worked with partners at Global Giving and GOOD to ensure that each idea qualified to receive funding. Once approved, each idea has the opportunity to be put into action.

"McHenry Primary has an incredibly inclusive environment, and we are thrilled to see this inclusiveness come to life through a playground which can be used by all children," said Skip Vaughan, vice president general manager of the Georgia Market Unit for Pepsi.
