MARIETTA, Ga. – If you dream of coming home to a cool purr or a comforting meow adopt a kitten from your local pet shelter. According to the ASPCA, approximately 5 million to 7 million domesticated animals enter animal shelters nationwide, every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized. However, you can change those numbers but adopting a “companion” for yourself or your family. Pets are an investment but, in our opinion, an investment well worth the money.

Serena is an adult, female, domestic short-haired cat. Serena is a pretty social cat who recently had a litter of kittens. According to the Humane Society, only one kitten survived and it was quickly adopted after birth. Since her kitten was adopted, Serena has been awaiting adoption and according to Humane Society personnel, she’s ready for adoption.

ATLANTA - Three people were killed in a round of severe thunderstorms that rumbled across Georgia Thursday bringing down trees and utility lines.

A 19-year-old Mableton man was killed by a falling tree. Authorities tell 11Alive Alonzo Terry Daniel was clearing debris from his grandfather's driveway on Stroud Drive when a large oak tree hit him. He later died at Wellstar Cobb Hospital.

Terry graduated from Washington High School last year. He was working full time at Grady Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department. He had plans to join the United States Army.

Terry's family told 11Alive News that they don't have any money to mourn the loss of their son.

Marion Irwin, 61, and Geraldine Grady, 64, were killed on Paces Ferry Road in Northwest Atlanta when a tree fell on their Mazda Miata.

Irwin and Grady, both residents of Decatur were driving along the narrow, wooded Paces Ferry Road when the tree crashed down on their convertible.
